These large birds have an average weight of 20-26lbs. Mother Goose’s Farmstead has documented select exhibition quality ganders reaching over 30lbs. These gentle giants are mild mannered, friendly, and curious. When socialized from a young age these birds will be loyal companions and seek out human company. They are hardy in all temperatures and live well in Minnesota. Dewlap Toulouse are extremely slow to mature needing a minimum of three years to reach full potential. Dewlap Toulouse are often a more expensive bird due to breeding difficulties. They produce a small amount of eggs each season, have fertility issues, and are poor mothers. Mother Goose’s Farmstead has practices in place to increase fertility and insure health of goslings.
Breeding Tips:
• Male:Female ratio 1:1
• Deep Water Access
• High Protein Diet (Adult Bird Only)
• Trimming Around Vent
• Removing Eggs Daily
• Use of Quality Incubator
This is a breed I recommend for hobbyist who want a unique bird with a pleasant temperament. This breed would not be ideal for egg consumption due to the low laying rate, and poor for meat consumption due to the slow maturation rate of these animals. New Dewlap Toulouse breeders need great patience when working with this goose.
